# Khata in Sri Lanka

Rs here is the Sri Lankan rupee and Rs in Kathmandu is the Nepali one; the code beside it on every report is what stops a two-country group reading one set of books as the other.

## Facts
- Shops using Khata: 1 shop (counted 2026-09-01)
- Currency: LKR (Rs)
- Dial code: +94
- Price: free on mobile

## The 9 provinces
Central, Eastern, North Central, North Western, Northern, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, Western

## What Khata does not do in Sri Lanka
- **The sales tax is not renamed for your country** — A business record carries a registration type of PAN, VAT or GST and nothing else. Khata will not print TRN, BIN, NTN or your local equivalent on a bill, and it does not know your country's rates.
- **There is no compliance calendar outside India and Nepal** — Filing reminders exist for those two only. Everywhere else the app tracks your sales and stock and leaves the filing dates to you.
- **No financial-year or week-start setting** — Reports are run by picking dates. Nothing defaults to your tax year or opens the week on your local first day, because neither is stored.
- **One business is one country** — The country chosen at signup sets the currency for everything that business does. A group trading across two countries needs one business per country.

## Questions

**Does Khata work in Sri Lanka?**

Yes. Choosing Sri Lanka at signup sets the business to LKR (Rs) and validates phone numbers against the +94 format, so bills, reports and payment reminders are all in your own currency from the first sale. 1 shop in Sri Lanka is on it as of 2026-09-01.

**What currency will my bills be in?**

LKR, shown as Rs. It is set from the country you pick and is not a default we fell back to — the app resolves a currency for every country in the world, which is why a shop in Sri Lanka is not billing in Indian rupees.

**Is it free in Sri Lanka?**

The mobile app is free everywhere, including Sri Lanka. There is no card, no trial period and nothing to cancel. The web dashboard is a separate, paid product that our team grants by hand.

**Does Khata handle Sri Lanka's sales tax?**

Not as a named local tax. A business record carries a registration type of PAN, VAT or GST and a registration number, and you can set a tax rate per line on a bill — but Khata does not know Sri Lanka's rates, will not print a local registration format on an invoice, and has no filing calendar outside India and Nepal.

**Will it work when the shop has no internet?**

Yes, and that is the point of it. A bill is completed on the phone and the server is told afterwards, so the sale finishes at the counter whether or not there is a signal. Nothing about that behaviour is different in Sri Lanka.

**Can one account cover Sri Lanka and another country?**

No. The country picked at signup fixes the currency for that whole business, so a group trading in Sri Lanka and elsewhere needs one business per country. Phone numbers are checked against +94 with 9 digits after the code.
